I Did Her Washing

Yesterday, I did her washing, just 2 little bags that hadn’t been done in a while because if you wash in the brothel your clothes get stolen. Just 2 little bags that made up her worldly belongings, 1 pair of orange trousers, 1 pair of jeans. 2 tracksuit tops, 2 dresses, 2 really old bras, 1 pair of panties, 2 dresses, 2 pairs of socks, a denim jacket and a few t-shirts.

I was honored to do her washing and while hanging it up to dry I could see how well worn these items where, I bet none of them purchased from a fancy store but rather a street vender, charity shop or one of our donations. My heart hurt while hanging up her washing cause that’s all she has and here I have loads of choices and half of them I don’t even wear or complain they don’t fit me.

We took “A” out for lunch today and the worry on her face when the bill came just broke my heart, but when we walked away she thanked us for all the love and support she has received in the past few days, she explained how shopping for her Funeral outfit last Friday was the first time in a long time that she went into a big retail store and was so scared, she said yesterday’s shopping for a new tracksuit, pajamas and groceries at Checkers was such a treat like it was her birthday or Christmas day. How she longed for that life but lived day by day on that hussel lifestyle to get by and how her main focus was always her baby and to provide for him.

We take life for granted, from a simple bra, warm jacket, a hug from a loved one, to knowing where our next meal is coming from. I just wish, one day, we could show you what these ladies go through and how we only want the best for them.

With Women’s Day coming up, please can you take some time this weekend and go through your clothes and donate any gentle pre loved items to eXpose HOPE so that we can make our ladies look and feel beautiful thanks to you.
