It’s everywhere you look. And everywhere you don’t.

It’s everywhere you look. And everywhere you don’t.
The sex industry is in almost every suburb of Durban. We are in crisis, and very few are choosing to pay attention or take action.
It’s in the affluent housing estates and the roughest ghettos, it’s in the upmarket town and the rural communities. It’s in plain sight on the side of the road, and it’s behind closed doors on the other side of a webcam.
If you think your neighbourhood is untouched, you would be wrong.
This afternoon, we took a 9 minute drive from our beautiful peaceful neighbourhood to track down a couple of industry friends that we knew from years back.
We have seen them walking up and down a busy road just 9 minutes from our home for a while now. Up and down, high
on whonga, skin, and bones, shivering in the freezing KZN winter weather. Until recently, I had no idea that they were still alive, rumors of their murder turning out to be just that, rumors, thank God.
As we pulled over, I called her name, and a grin broke out over her face. “I can’t believe that you remember my name.” She says in disbelief and joy.
We gift them with some toiletries and warm sweatshirts and chat for a while before they start shivering and obvious signs of needing to smoke their fix kicked in.
Tears well up in their eyes as Liza tells them how loved they are. We wonder when was the last time they heard the words “I love you”?
As they walk off down the road with their gifts, we sigh deeply, sadly, broken heartedly.
We know for a fact that these 2 women have been severely judged on social media, we have read the posts, and we have responded to the posts. What people do not realise is the horrifying trauma that they have endured. What many do not care to understand is that the sex industry is EVERYWHERE, and it is the least expected girls and women who get targeted so often.
Please help us to help those who are trapped. Please help us to prevent more from falling through the cracks.
